About Sheriff Williams
Sheriff L.E. “Bummy” Williams (D) was born in Perry, FL on June 28, 1945. He attended Taylor County Public Schools then went on to earn an AA Degree from North Florida Community College. In addition, he also attended Lively Vo-Tech, Tallahassee Community College and Valencia Community College receiving Law Enforcement Education and Certification.
Sheriff Williams is married to June and they have one child. Sheriff Williams attends Baptist Church and served for the U.S. Army from 1965-1967.
His career in the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office began in 1968 when he served as Jailer and Dispatcher, then Deputy, Sergeant, Lieutenant and Chief Deputy from 1969-1980. From 1980-1996, he served as an investigator for the State Attorney’s Office. In 1996 he was elected and has served as the Taylor County Sheriff since then, and has been re-elected in 2000, 2004, and 2008 (unopposed).
